Masdar City wins United Nations Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Award

Masdar City has won a United Nations Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Award at the Global Forum on Human Settlement 2019.
 
Abdulla Balalaa, Director, Real Estate Development and Design accepted the award at a ceremony, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The city was honoured for its efforts in developing a low-carbon city and the initiatives that have supported the city’s sustainable development across energy and water use, waste reduction, green building and sustainable transportation.
 
While at the ceremony, Balalaa on behalf of Masdar, pledged the company’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals through the commercialization and deployment of renewable energy and clean technologies, the advancement of sustainable urban development, and its support of strategic initiatives aimed at addressing global sustainability challenges through the sharing of knowledge and best practice.
 
The Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards (SCAHSA) is an annual worldwide prize issued by the Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS) and supported by UN Environment. It is focused on promoting the mission of GFHS and enhancing the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by recognizing excellence and progress towards a sustainable world.
